What is Aquamation?

Aquamation, otherwise known as Alkaline Hydrolysis, is a natural method of decomposition that uses water, not fire, to cremate bodies.

The specifics

It starts with the placement of the body in a stainless steel cylinder. This fills with a solution of water and natural salts that speed up the organic process of water decomposition.
Over a few hours, the water solution gently flows over the body and dissolves all the soft tissue. It leaves behind only bone ash, which is returned to you in an handmade Pisces urn.
The remaining liquid is sterile, benign, and contains no DNA. It’s nutrient-rich, and is returned to the municipal water system for treatment.

Gentle on Mother Nature

Aquamation is a zero emissions deathcare solution that’s 20 x less harmful than the traditional way. It saves ~540lbs of CO2 pollution and 28 gallons of fuels per cremation. That’s around the same amount of fuel held in the average SUV tank.

Powered by Water

Aquamation uses a solution of 95% water, and 5% alkali salts. Alkali salts, along with a little heat and pressure, help speed up the body’s natural decomposition process, as it would typically occur underground or in water. No fire is used at all.

A short time

A body placed underground in a casket can take over 12 years to decompose. With Aquamation, the process takes between 3-4 hours, and does not damage local soil beds or flora in the process.
